For Sass & Bide, a fashion house known for its precise tailoring and hand-finished garments, Montgomery Studios collaborated with The Guild and the brand’s creative team to create a full-scale architectural installation inspired by the human touch embedded in the collection. The project drew from the white hand-stitching used throughout the label’s hems and garment details, translating the movement of thread into spatial form.
Through an iterative material process, the studio tested used white T-shirts, factory fabric off-cuts, and other textile remnants before developing the final installation from second-hand torn bedding sheets dipped in plaster, paint, and gel medium. These rolled fabric strips were sculpted around an aluminum framework in sections, creating a suspended architectural form that captured the fluidity, labor, and intimacy of hand-stitching at an immersive scale.
