Bookcases Ad Infinitum
Designed for a conference room in Midtown, New York City, Bookcases Ad Infinitum explores how ideas materialize through form and how the cultural role of the book is shifting in the digital age.
The double-layered bookcase operates as both concept and construction. A second depth of books recedes behind the first, foregrounding the book as an object while allowing it to partially disappear. This layered condition creates a tension between visibility and disappearance, presence and obsolescence.
In this sense, the project functions as a footnote itself: fragmenting and revealing its own construction while reflecting the changing status of literature and knowledge. Once primary transmitters of information, books are increasingly held between intellectual use, material presence, and symbolic artifact.
