Number 1 or Number 2
Number 1 or Number 2
Named one of the “Top Ten Public Bathrooms in America” by The Insider, Number 1 or Number 2 is a hospitality bathroom designed for a Kimpton hotel. The project reimagines the public restroom as a social interior, one capable of interrupting the anonymity and isolation of travel. This project was designed in collaboration with We Come in Peace and Creme.
The space is intentionally minimal in color, material, and form, allowing the people who enter to become the central actors. A communal sink without a mirror redirects attention outward, encouraging guests to look toward one another rather than at themselves. This small spatial shift creates the possibility for brief exchanges, shared humor, and unexpected intimacy.
A cabinet filled with sculptural casts of the designer’s hands, each gesturing with either one or two fingers, extends the project’s playful engagement with privacy, embarrassment, and social encounter. Through restraint, humor, and unusual detailing, the bathroom becomes a space where strangers are gently invited into relation.
