By integrating cremains into architectural elements, it materializes a liminal space between life and death. The columns operate simultaneously as individual markers and collective memorials, fostering a shared condition of remembrance. Mourners move through a constructed grove—composed of both living birch trees and abstracted columns—guided by sequences of light, density, and spacing. The project takes the form of a portable stone and disk sculpture, designed to move with its users. In doing so, it reflects a cultural shift away from fixed, permanent burial sites toward more adaptable, personal forms of remembrance. At the scale of the object, this iteration becomes more intimate and specific. Each stack is anchored by a headstone at its base, with cremation disks above that hold the remains of a single family or incorporate materials that represent an individual life. This piece holds my own experience of grief—both the tangible and intangible losses that have shaped me. It marks not only the loss of people, but of places—formative environments I may never return to. In this way, it becomes a physical record of memory. As my life continues, I can keep adding to it.
