      <image:title>The Architecture of Death</image:title>
<image:caption>As an entry point into this research, I began with a case study of Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven—the first charted cemetery in the United States. The image on the left shows clay pressed into the surface of one of the oldest headstones, capturing its inscription through touch</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Architecture of Death</image:title>
<image:caption>Here conceptual mapping of a familial plot translates each grave into a field of pinholes—points of light emerging from darkness. These studies began to shift my thinking—from documentation toward translation, and from inscription toward light.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Architecture of Death</image:title>
<image:caption>At this scale, the project engages broader architectural and theoretical questions around death, ritual, and the built environment. By integrating cremains into architectural elements, it materializes a liminal space between life and death. The columns operate simultaneously as individual markers and collective memorials, fostering a shared condition of remembrance. Mourners move through a constructed grove—composed of both living birch trees and abstracted columns—guided by sequences of light, density, and spacing. In this way, the project draws on phenomenological approaches to architecture, where experience, movement, and perception shape meaning.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Architecture of Death</image:title>
<image:caption>Nomadic Burial Project, a recent iteration in this work—responds to the increasing transience of contemporary life. The project takes the form of a portable stone and disk sculpture, designed to move with its users. In doing so, it reflects a cultural shift away from fixed, permanent burial sites toward more adaptable, personal forms of remembrance. At the scale of the object, this iteration becomes more intimate and specific. Each stack is anchored by a headstone at its base, with cremation disks above that hold the remains of a single family or incorporate materials that represent an individual life. Its mobility challenges the permanence of traditional memorials, proposing instead a more adaptive and personal form of remembrance—one that can move with the living and respond to the evolving conditions of contemporary life.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Architecture of Death</image:title>
<image:caption>Here is my stack. This piece holds my own experience of grief—both the tangible and intangible losses that have shaped me. It marks not only the loss of people, but of places—formative environments I may never return to. In this way, it becomes a physical record of memory. As my life continues, I can keep adding to it. The stack evolves with me—functioning as a living monument, one that I carry rather than leave behind.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Architecture of Death</image:title>
<image:caption>Returning from the personal to the collective, the Nomadic Burial Project becomes a meditation on ritual, memory, and impermanence. It engages the question of how we preserve and carry the memory of the deceased in ways that resonate with contemporary conditions of mobility and change. The footnotes of this work are rooted in my training and lived experience—shaped by practices of awareness, material inquiry, and a sustained engagement with how space can hold meaning over time.</image:caption>
